Susan J Nichols
Sue is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Applied Ecology, University of Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. Her research has focused on the use of macroinvertebrate predictive models for bioassessment, the reference condition and causal analysis for ecological assessment of river condition. Much of her research is about improving the use of the existing knowledge for managing the environment and the development of innovative approaches to synthesize such information. She has worked extensively on the development of the Australian River Assessment System (AUSRIVAS), which comprises standardized macroinvertebrate sampling methods, predictive models, and software to assess the biological health of Australian rivers. Her current research projects focus on DNA-based identification for routine bioassessment and diagnosing river health using invertebrate traits.
